| PREMIER AND MINISTERS UNVEIL COMMEMORATIVE CORNERSTONE AT EXPANDED CANCER TREATMENT CENTRE |

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI -- Premier Pat Binns and Health and Social Services Minister, Jamie Ballem, along with local MLA Elmer MacFadyen today unveiled a commemorative cornerstone marking the construction and expansion of the Provincial Cancer Treatment Centre. September 1997, Government announced that a 7,500 foot expansion to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital would accommodate a new Cancer Treatment Centre. This was the first step in the implementation of a comprehensive cancer control strategy. The Provincial Cancer Treatment Centre was opened in June 1999. April 2000, Government announced an expansion to the Cancer Treatment Centre and service enhancement with the purchase of a linear accelerator. The Cancer Treatment Centre expansion cost approximately $8 million. "On behalf of Ministers Ballem and MacFadyen, and the Government of Prince Edward Island, I am pleased to unveil this cornerstone today," said Premier Pat Binns. "The Provincial Cancer Treatment Centre is the fulfilment of promises our government made to reduce out-of-province referrals and enable Islanders to obtain treatment at home, where they have the support of family and community."
The inscription on the cornerstone reads as follows: The Prince Edward Island Cancer Treatment Centre,first opened on June 25, 1999, expanded, and rededicated August 13, 2003 by Honourable Patrick G.
